The State of New Jersey requires municipalities to have an official custodian of public records so information can be obtained upon request (Open Public Records Act, OPRA). The Clerk serves as the town’s records manager.

The Clerk serves as the secretary to the elected officials, preparing agendas and minutes for all meetings, and serves as the town’s Public Relations Officer handling citizen complaints and acting as a liaison between the elected officials and municipal employees and the public.

The Clerk is also the Chief Financial Officer in the Borough of Brooklawn. The CFO is responsible for maintaining the general ledger, bank and cash reconciliation, financial reports and preparing the Borough’s yearly budget.
