Brooklawn Arbor Day & Virtual Tree Tour

The Brooklawn Shade Tree Commission and Borough Council are inviting the public to participate in the annual Arbor Day Tree planting. This year we are planting a Sugar Maple in memory of longtime borough employee, Joseph John Cerrone, 9/19/1928 – 12/10/1988.

We will host the in-person tree planting event on Saturday, May 1 at 10:00 am in Noreg Circle. The public is invited to attend and social distancing will be followed. This year, we are launching our virtual tree tour. Residents and students can simply stop by the tree planting and scan the QR code attached to the tree to learn more about the dedication and species of the tree.

Look for trees with the QR label and simply hold your smartphone camera to link to the details about the trees, when they were planted and who they were planted in honor of.

About the Brooklawn Shade Tree Commission:

The Shade Tree Commission was established in July 2009. Over the years, the Commission has continued to oversee regulation, planting and care of shade and ornamental trees and shrubbery on any municipal property or park in the Borough. This includes the planting, trimming, care and protection of the trees. Each season, the Commission takes requests from residents that are interested in having a tree planted in front of their home (courtesy of the Commission).

The Commission recently received Tree City USA status from the Arbor Day Foundation for the 11th consecutive year, in addition to receiving the growth award from the foundation in the past.
